Rajkumar Hirani's three-part friendship comedy became the highest-grossing Indian film of its year for a reason: it makes a sharp argument about education-as-pressure-cooker through three engineering students whose loyalties bend the system. Aamir Khan plays well below his actual age and gets away with it because Hirani's tone shifts between farce and tears land. UA at 171 minutes; works for the whole household 11+, especially as a counterweight to academic perfectionism.
